Faced with raging flames and complex environments, robots and drones team up to show their skills

In the “Emergency Mission 2021” earthquake relief exercise held on May 14, facing the raging flames, facing various dangerous and complex environments such as tall buildings, high temperature, dense smoke, toxic, hypoxia, etc., a large number of new technologies and equipment were unveiled. There are drone groups and the province’s first fire-fighting robot rescue team.

What role can they play in rescue?

Scene 1 Gasoline tank leaks, explosion occurs, fire-fighting robot rescue team appears

On May 14, after the simulated “strong earthquake”, the gasoline tank area (6 3000m storage tanks) of the Daxing storage tank area of Ya’an Yaneng Company leaked, forming a flow area of about 500m in the fire dike and caught fire, causing No. 2 in succession. , No. 4, No. 3 and No. 6 tanks exploded and burned, and the height of the flame sprayed out was tens of meters, and the fire was very violent. This explosion poses a serious threat to other storage tanks in the tank area, and the situation is extremely critical.

This is a scene from the main exercise field in Ya’an. Fighting side by side with firefighters in silver heat-insulated suits in the scorching fire scene is a group of “Mecha Warriors” in orange  suits—the robot squadron of the Luzhou Fire Rescue Detachment. At the drill site, a total of 10 operators and 10 fire-fighting robots were extinguishing the fire.

I saw 10 fire-fighting robots ready to go to the designated point one after another, and quickly sprayed foam to cool the fire tank to extinguish the fire, and ensure the accuracy of the fire-extinguishing agent throughout the process and the efficient spraying, which effectively prevented the fire from spreading.

After the on-site headquarters adjusts the combat forces of all parties and initiates the fire-fighting command, all fire-fighting robots will show their “superior power”. Under the command of the commander, they can flexibly adjust the spray angle of the water cannon, increase the jet flow, and extinguish the fire by swinging left and right. The entire tank area was cooled and extinguished, and the fire was finally successfully extinguished.

The reporter learned that the firefighting robots participating in this exercise are RXR-MC40BD (S) medium foam fire extinguishing and reconnaissance robots (codenamed “Blizzard”) and 4 RXR-MC80BD firefighting and reconnaissance robots (codenamed “Water Dragon”). . Among them, the “Water Dragon” is equipped with a total of 14 units, and the “Blizzard” is equipped with a total of 11 units. Together with the transport vehicle and the liquid supply vehicle, they form the most basic fire extinguishing unit.

Lin Gang, Chief of the Operational Training Section of the Luzhou Fire Rescue Detachment, introduced that in August last year, in order to comprehensively strengthen the modernization of fire and rescue capabilities, accelerate the transformation and upgrading of fire rescue forces, make every effort to solve the problem of fire fighting and rescue, and reduce casualties, the Luzhou Fire Rescue Detachment The first rescue team of firefighting robots in the province was established. Fire-fighting robots can effectively replace fire-fighting officers to enter the scene of an accident when faced with various dangerous and complex environments such as high temperature, dense smoke, toxic, and hypoxia. These fire-fighting robots are driven by high-temperature flame-retardant rubber crawlers. They have an internal metal frame and are connected to a water supply belt at the rear. They can operate at a distance of 1 km from the rear console. The best effective combat range is 200 meters, and the effective jet range is 85. Meter.

Interestingly, fire-fighting robots are not actually more resistant to high temperatures than humans. Although its shell and track can withstand high temperatures, the normal working temperature of the internal electronic components must be controlled below 60 degrees Celsius. What to do in the scorching fire? It has its own cool trick-in the middle of the robot’s body, there is a raised cylindrical probe, which can monitor the temperature of the robot’s working environment in real time, and immediately sprays water mist on the body when abnormalities are found, like a “protective cover”.

Currently, the brigade is equipped with 38 special robots and 12 robot transport vehicles. In the future, they will play an active role in the rescue of inflammable and explosive places such as petrochemical industry, large-span and large spaces, underground buildings, etc.

In addition to emergency response, command and disposal, and force projection, on-site rescue is also an important part of the exercise. The exercise set up 12 subjects including search and rescue of buried pressure personnel in buildings, fire extinguishing of high-rise buildings, disposal of gas pipeline leakage in gas storage and distribution stations, and fire extinguishing of hazardous chemical storage tanks.
